Agents of Shield. It aired from September 24th, 2013 until August 12th, 2020. The show spans over seven seasons with a collective 136 episodes. Yet barely anyone talks about it.

One of my best friends was obsessed with the show from start to finish. We'll call her Mando. Mando constantly told me about how amazing the show was. She'd state something and then say "that was an Agents of Shield reference." She'd try her best to make me understand why the show was so good without spoiling anything to me. I, like any good friend, promised her I'd watch the show over a year ago. After my era binge watching sitcoms had come to an end, I decided I've give the show a shot. Trust me, it was worth it.

Reasons why Agents of Shield is one of the best Marvel shows:

  1. The agents in SHIELD are better at solving tasks than the Avengers. I know this will probably ruffle some feathers. I used to love the Avengers Saga, and I still do, but now I know that they're not the best team. The amount of time it takes the Avengers to handle one threat to Earth is maybe three times slower than the amount of time it takes the agents. They're dealing with multiverse level threats starting sometime between seasons two and three, and they do it faster than the Avengers.

  2. The agents in SHIELD are more than a team. They're a family. Every agent is messed up in some way. Something in their past happened that will forever change them. When together, you'll see the family dynamics come into play better than you will in the Avengers team.

  3. The episodes in Agents of Shield are very consistent and detail oriented. Details from the first few seasons will be brought back up later. Every point in the show matters, and no stone is left unturned.

  4. The superpowers are much more complex. In the show, there are several characters with powers that will appear. The way that these powers come out is much more important and has a long lasting change in the character's lives.

  5. Agents of Shield actually knows how to write a Multiverse. While watching the show, I felt that the concept of a multiverse was explored better than in traditional Marvel movies. There were contingencies that were accounted for, and each part was explained very well.

  6. The plot twists are massive. With each season, the plot twists and cliffhangers were incredible. Each one had me left shocked and wanting more. I do agree that a lot of Marvel movies are good at this, but recently, the plot twists in Marvel have felt like they were coming from miles away. In Agents of Shield, it's usually harder to predict which direction the show is going in.

  7. It goes way more in depth about Nazi's and Hydra than in the movies. If you enjoyed the reveal in Captain America Winter Soldier, you'll love mid Season one. The show goes into detail about everyone's reactions when the secret let out and how it affected SHIELD.

  8. It's very diverse for a MCU show in 2013. The cast is made up of a lot of ethnicities and it even dives into some racial and feminist viewpoints.

  9. The characters aren't one dimensional. They're flawed and are very complex. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses that are extremely clear and lead to conflict. It's not a vanilla show.

  10. You'll hate most of the bad guys. Especially in the earlier seasons, it's hard not to hate the bad guys and that makes it easier to get into plot rather them just being misunderstood. They are Nazis after all.

Things to look out for when watching Agents of Shield:

  1. The first half of Season 1 is extremely slow, but after that the show takes off and never stops. It might be tempting to stop watching the show after the Pilot, but remember that Pilot episodes are usually just to test the waters of a show. Most Pilots are never good, and this one was made during 2013.

  2. Pay attention to everything. It might seem like a small detail now, but the writers did an awesome job at connecting everything. If you're used to watching shows where the details don't matter, this is definitely different. Even aspects that happening in the first season were still relevant by Season seven.

  3. There's a lot of dark and gloomy death. It will hurt you inside. If you can, don't get too attached to anyone until at least Season four where the deaths start to slow down.

  4. Don't look up anything about Agents of Shield until you finish the show. That means no edits, no Pinterest photos, and definitely no Google searches. You will be spoiled, because as I said, everything is important.

  5. Do not look at any of the episode names on DisneyPlus or their descriptions. It spoils almost everything that happens and it's better to be surprised while watching.

******It is VERY important to watch Agent Carter before you watch Agents of Shield!! It has only two seasons and 18 episodes. It is very funny, and the 1940's era makes things more interesting. You'll also have to watch Captain America the Winter Soldier as it occurs around Season one episode 16.******

I hope this post made you recognize how awesome Agents of Shields is. If you haven't watched it, what are you waiting for? Go now!
